GLOBAL DATA  Global data is data that can be seen by all PROJECTS and refers to any data that is entered or viewed from the menu.

MENU  The tool bar at the top of BackStage which shows the following categories: ADD/EDIT, DEFAULTS, HOLIDAYS, MOBILE, TOOLS and HELP.

MULTI-USER  BackStage multi-user means that more than one member of the management team can edit the same data from different computers at the same time.  Since BackStage can work offline and keeps it's master database on a web server, the database between multi-users is synchronised each time the data is backed-up.

PROJECT  A PROJECT is a collection of  related (tied) sessions (i.e. a concert and it's rehearsals.)  There is no limit to how many or how few sessions can be included in a PROJECT.  BackStage users create PROJECTS and then add sessions to them.

SESSION  BackStage recognises 5 different kinds of session; concert, rehearsal, travel, education and on-call.  Each type of session allows different information to be entered against it such as timings and payments.  These are colour-coded differently on the calendars and web pages.  The On-call session is a general session that encompasses any activity that involves the whole orchestra but is not one of the other types of session.

SINGLE-USER  BackStage single-user means that only one member of the management team can edit the BackStage data.  BackStage single-user still outputs all it's data to a web page that can be seen by multiple members of the organisation.  Single-user applications are sometimes described as stand-alone applications.  This is the opposite of multi-user.

STAND-ALONE  An alternative way to describe a single-user application.

USER ACCOUNT  All modern computers allow multiple users to work from the same computer each from their own user account.  This allows them each to create and save documents only to their own user account that will be visible to only them.  By default, a new "Windows" computer has just one user account set up which has administrator privileges enabled allowing all programs to be loaded from this user account.  Other user accounts can be added with reduced privileges that don't allow the user to load programs but do allow the user to use them.  It is recommended practice to work from non-administrator accounts since this prevents malicious programs being inadvertently downloaded from the internet.  BackStage is designed to allow it to be downloaded by user accounts without administrator privileges and be visible only to that user account.  This is considered to offer more security to your data.  BackStage can also be downloaded and used from user accounts with full administrator privileges.
